    William James

    Let us strive to improve ourselves, for we cannot remain stationary; one either progresses or retrogrades.

    Life is like a game of cards. The hand you are dealt is determinism; the way you play it is free will.

About

So what is this game of life all about?

For the past twenty years and more, I’ve been asking that same question. And since we’re living in the Information Age, I’ve come across thousands, nay millions, who claim to have the answers. We live in a society where information abounds: Radio, television, newspapers, magazines, periodicals, the Internet and other electronic media, satellite communications, and all manner of religions, governments and ideologies.

However, the Information Age does not equal the Age of Truth. Increasing information does not necessarily mean a better understanding of reality. While there are billions of websites, books and other sources of information, there seems to be a steadily decreasing level of Truth and Understanding. Where does one turn to for sensible answers and advice?

Holistic Views

The other downfall of the Internet is that few sites view life holistically. It’s all about niches and micro-niches. I won’t bore you with the technicalities, but it all has to do with a game called Search Engine Optimisation, where webmasters create websites around a tightly knit theme so that people searching for a particular topic can find their site easily. That’s hunky-dory if you’re looking for a recipe for baked apple pie, but it’s counter-intuitive if you’re looking for answers to the game of life.

That’s simply because all of Life is interconnected.

  • One can’t address diet, health and longevity, if you have no idea what your life purpose is. Your eating habits are very much dictated by how fulfilled you are;
  • It’s pointless mapping out a career and focussing on productivity if your relationship is unfulfilling. You will end up leading an unbalanced life;
  • How can one decide on ethical behaviour and what Fulfilled Living means in the face of so many conflicting religious ideologies? Your World View first needs to be addressed, before following any particular religion.

All is interconnected, and I’ve found precious few sites that acknowledge this. Each life challenge is dealt with as if it’s not connected to anything else. That’s akin to addressing a medical symptom, instead of the root cause of the ailment.

So, while I don’t have all the answers, I’ve learnt a tremendous amount since a decision to leave full-time employment in June 2004 to commence a concerted search for answers. This website is a collection of those truths and lessons learned. Perhaps that’s what makes this site different. I’m not trying to convince you of anything. Nor am I trying to sell anything (you will notice the distinct absence of garish banners and advertising). All I’m providing is a record of my journey En Route to Mastery. Your journey will be different, but all paths eventually converge. Our understandings will eventually agree, because there is only one Truth. All Masters know this.

This site will prove useful if you believe:

  • There is one thing not yet known, the knowing of which could change everything;
  • It’s all part of the process;
  • We’re all in this together, even though everything currently appears disjointed.

So what lessons have I learned?

The key breakthroughs have been this:

  1. “The System”, particularly the one we’re born into in the Western world, including all man-made constructs like government and religion, is stifling. It matters not why this is – the key is to accept this truism and learn how to lead a fulfilling life outside of The System.
  2. Life is a process, a never-ending continuum. We can never say, “I’ve arrived”, because there is no destination. The journey is the purpose. Hence the name of this blog: En Route to Mastery.
  3. There is only one Message, but many Messengers. The Universe is constantly trying to communicate that Message to us, using its own language of signs. In order to understand this language, we only have to look with an open mind at what’s going on around us. And I can tell you from personal experience; once you learn this ‘sign language’ everything starts making perfect sense. Sure we lived in a messed up world, but even that is part of the process. It all has to be.

So come with me on this rather enlightening journey. Let’s see how far down the rabbit hole we can go…
